November is National Healthy Skin Month, so it is a good time to take a look at the ways to keep your skin healthy while taking care of overall health. While we are not dermatologists here at TIMC, many of the programs and products we offer promote healthy skin.
Allergy Elimination: Tenpenny Sensitivity Reduction Technique (T-SRT), promotes healthy skin along with a healthy immune system. Conditions that are likely to improve include eczema, psoriasis, and hives (urticaria). T-SRT may also be helpful for acne and rosacea. This program is excellent for people of all ages including infants and children.
Detox 360/Gluten-free program: Our popular Detox 360 program helps the body release toxins and resolve inflammation. The program promotes overall health, including skin health, through its use of fresh, healthful, organic foods, and supplements that support our organs of detoxification. The skin is the biggest organ of the body, and one of the primary organs of detoxification. It is very responsive when we “clean up” our diets and the products we use in our on our skin and in our households. Skin conditions that may improve on Detox 360 include eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne, vitiligo, rosacea, and more. To help my patients, I have gone through the Detox 360 program myself – twice! I felt so good after this program and I’m sure you will too!
Supplementation: Getting your blood tested for vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant status with Spectracell Laboratories’ micronutrient testing is an excellent health-promoting step. Many micronutrients are essential for skin health, including vitamins B3, Biotin, Folate, Pantothenate, Vitamin E, zinc, and copper, all identified through this unique test. Deficiencies can be corrected by specific foods, or the use of high quality supplements such as those available here at TIMC.
Homeopathy: As a trained homeopath, I understand how effective homeopathy can be for skin health. If you want to have an individualized approach, I can meet with you for an in-depth interview and an individualized constitutional homeopathic remedy that can specifically address acute or long standing skin conditions you may have.
Intestinal Health: The health of your digestive tract affects your whole body, including your skin. Identifying and correcting bacterial imbalances, often with the use of probiotics and digestive enzymes, can have wonderful positive effects on the skin. Most of the programs we offer at TIMC will benefit your intestinal health.
LaVita Compounding Pharmacy : La Vita is one of the special pharmacies we work with. LaVita is one of only 300 compounding pharmacies to be certified by PCAB, the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board.
Wrinkling and sagging of the skin is not just caused by aging. Other contributing factors are sun damage, hormone imbalance, poor skin care, improper nutrition and pollution – all of which result in free radicals that can cause widespread damage to the cells of the body – including the skin. LaVita has created Healthy Aging Skincare formulations to help fight the ravaging effects of these free radicals with potent, prescription-only anti-oxidants.
The customized compounds are designed to increase elasticity, firm the skin, even out skin tone and decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. LaVita’s customized compounded skincare formulations differ from over-the-counter products because they use ingredients and strengths that are only available by prescription.
Tips for Achieving and Maintaining Healthy Skin
- Use shower and bath filters that remove chlorine for yourself and your children. Chlorine is toxic to your skin. Many skin conditions will improve when you begin dechlorinating your bath and shower water.
- Eat fresh, healthy, organic foods.
- Avoid artificial colors, preservatives, hydrogenated oils, and the “great whites” (white flour, white sugar, cow’s milk).
- Maintain good hydration with purified water.
- Be sure to get enough sleep.
Finally, become aware of what is in the products you use on your skin, as many products contain unhealthy ingredients. By gaining awareness, you can then make healthier choices. Whatever your health issues, we look forward to helping you. Your skin and your whole body is sure to be better off!
