Last week was my first trip to South America. I was asked to speak at a seminar sponsored by Nutrabiotics, an up and coming nutraceutical company owned by two energetic and bright young men I’m proud to count among my friends. I met Luc Lamaire when I was the medical director at Sanoviv Medical Institute in Rosarito, Mexico in 2008-9. He moved to Colombia in 2009 to join forces with his friend from chiropractic school, Ben Raby, to form this new company. Both are French Canadians and they are going to change the way healthcare is delivered in Colombia, and beyond.
The seminar was an educational event to teach doctors the principles of Functional Medicine. I was asked to speak for one hour on minerals and tissue pH and then for three hours on vaccines. The medical doctors in attendance were so open, so friendly and so receptive to the “shocking” information about vaccines, it was difficult to remember they were physicians. I was received with extreme gratitude, unlike anything I have ever experienced.
I learned that in Colombia, doctors are required to vaccinate. If they suggest otherwise, the doctor can be charged with child abuse and child endangerment, and they are threatened with going to jail. There are apparently ways around this indictment, but the threat is very real. One physician told the following story:
“I reported a girl had a serious reaction to the Gardasil vaccine. Reporting reactions are required so I didn’t think anything about it. The next day, the Vice President of Merck for South America and Vice President for Merck for Colombia showed up in my office with FOUR bodyguards and an attorney. They were there to force me to retract my report of the side effect. I refused and after a long discussion, the finally left.
“In another city, a neurologist called me and asked me to help in the treatment of another girl who had been seriously affected by the Gardasil vaccine. I was able to offer suggestions using Functional Medicine and homeopathy. A few days later, the neurologist called me to say he could no longer accept my help and was forbidden to speak to me again. The hospital had threatened to fire him if he continued to treat this girl for a ‘vaccine injury’ since there is no such thing. Both of these events were very disturbing to me. Not only do they deny that the vaccine causes harm, the apparently do not want those who have been injured to get well.”
At that point, the physicians in the room were fired up to work together. There were four pediatricians at the conference. After the seminar, one pediatrician said to me, “I have pushed vaccinations for 27 years. No More!” They want to organize, change the laws, protect physicians and give parents a choice by giving them full information about the problems with vaccines and how to stay healthy instead.
Within a week, the ruling from a Colombia court came down, ruling that the girls had indeed experienced a vaccine injury from Gardasil. It is unfortunate that these determinations are made retrospectively instead of parents – and doctors – Just Saying NO in the first place.
