Mannitol Injection Therapy is Dramatically Effective for Treating Most Injuries;
TIMC Patients Cry Tears of Joy at the New Technique’s Rapid Results
(Middleburg Heights, OH) – Imagine if your nagging neck pain, agonizing headaches, problematic knee pain and low back pain were gone. Sound too good to be true? It isn’t for many across northeast Ohio who have taken advantage of a new procedure offered at the Tenpenny Integrative Medical Center (TIMC).
Mannitol Injection Therapy (MIT) is a new approach for eliminating neuralgias, musculoskeletal, and neuropathic pain. MIT, also known as Neural Prolotherapy, was developed by New Zealander, John Lyftogt, M.D. His extensive medical practice involved treating many professional athletes, which led him on a quest to find a non-pharmaceutical approach to Achilles tendon injuries. Since 2005, Lyftogt has published six studies in the Australasian Journal of Musculoskeletal Medicine on the success of mannitol injection therapy, and he has expanded the technique to address pain in other areas of the body. At this time, fewer than 60 physicians in the U.S. have been trained on this technique.
MIT involves a series of micro-injections using a tiny needle to introduce the mannitol subcutaneously. The sugar solution bathes the nerves that course between the skin and the fascia, a tough tissue that surrounds the muscles. MIT is nearly painless and does not involve injecting tendons or scars. Because the solution is washed out of the body naturally within 24 hours, it is safe to use with diabetics.
Dr. Sherri Tenpenny, D.O., TIMC’s founder, says that clinical experience has shown the success rate can be has high as 85% after a series of 3 to 12 injections, meaning, 85% of patients will have resolution of their pain and return of function.
“It’s exciting to see patients struggle to walk to the treatment room, and leave with an immediate reduction in pain. This is an entirely new approach to pain and the results we are seeing are simply amazing,” said Tenpenny. “One woman had injured her back in an exercise class, and even after seeing a chiropractor and trying physical therapy, the pain was getting worse. After her first 15-minute session, she sat in the chair comfortably for the first time in months. She literally cried for joy.”
Tenpenny went on to say, “Another patient experienced a dramatic drop in knee pain, while a third patient with serious neck issues has been able to resume normal duties at work. Another patient avoided elbow surgery because her pain was gone after two sessions.”
MIT can be used to address tension headaches and migraines, low back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, carpal tunnel, and has even shown some success with diabetic and post-chemotherapy neuropathies.
“This is the most fun I’ve had in medicine in years,” Tenpenny said. “It’s so rewarding to offer our patients a treatment that is not painful and they see immediate relief.”
