Cranial Osteopathy for Children

Dr. Sherri Tenpenny is board certified in osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine (AOBNMM). She has treated many hundreds of children with cranial osteopathy, including newborns.

Cranial osteopathy is the study of anatomy and physiology of the cranium and its inter-relationship with the body as a whole. It may be applied for the prevention and treatment of disease and enhancement of health, within the practice of the science of osteopathy. Osteopathy in the cranial field is an expansion of the general principles of osteopathy. Treatment restores structural balance, improves vitality and can help people with many different disorders.

The potential applications of Osteopathy in the Cranial Field to pediatric care are myriad, from obvious structural problems such as torticollis, plagiocephaly (misshaped cranial bones) and nursemaid’s elbow, to systemic issues such as recurrent otitis media and gastro-esophageal reflux, and more challenging problems such as cerebral palsy and (in some cases) autism spectrum.

Cranial is safe, gentle, and effective for all ages including newborns. We have used cranial osteopathy to correct crossed-eyes without surgery and to eliminate colic in babies.  There is a difference between cranial osteopathy and craniosacral therapy. For a complete explanation, go here.
