Osteopathic Manipulation Treatment (OMT)
Osteopathic medicine was founded in 1874 by Andrew Taylor Still, a US medical doctor (MD). While osteopathic and chiropractic manipulation overlap in many ways , they are not identical. Specific techniques include muscle-energy, Jones counterstrain (also known as strain-counterstrain), myofascial release, and osteopathy in the cranial field. Cranial Osteopathy is a medical treatment applied by licensed physicians (MD or DO) who have completed a medical education and numerous years of additional training in this specialty. Basic introductory courses in cranial osteopathy include 40 to 80 hours of intense training. At Tenpenny IMC, Dr. Sherri Tenpenny has been highly trained in the study of anatomy and physiology of the cranium and its inter-relationship with the body as a whole. This gentle technique can be used for the prevention AND for the treatment of disease. Osteopathy in the cranial field is an expansion of the general principles of osteopathy. Cranial is safe, gentle, and effective for all ages including newborns. A single 24 hour course provides a certificate. For a more information on cranial osteopathy, go here.
